Canadian Gas Prices

I may be be mistaken, but I believe that there is more than enough oil being pumped out of the ground in Canada to supply all our fuels needs without imports. That being said; why the hell are we paying world market price for a locally (nationally) produced commodity? Surely the oil companies in Canada can cut the consumer a break on prices and still make their astronomical profits. I don't see why I have to get bent over a desk every time OPEC decides to bump up their profits or the multinationals decide to screw the little guy some more.
